NJCU's Department of Professional Security Studies offers a Master of Science in National Security Studies.

The Master of Science in National Security Studies program includes core requirements, specialization and a culminating experience. Courses are offered online and in-person. Students specializing in Information Assurance/Cyber Security have the option to complete the entire Master of Science degree program online.

For students who choose the thesis or specialized field project options, six additional elective credits (two courses) must be taken. For students that chose the comprehensive exam, twelve additional elective credits (four courses) must be taken.

Students who do not wish to commit to complete a Master of Science program may opt for the Cyber Defense, Graduate Certificate. The National Security Agency has granted the Department certification approval through 2020. Certificates are awarded under the signatures of the Department Chairperson and the Dean, College of Professional Studies.

Students earning a Master of Science in National Security Studies or the Cyber Defense, Graduate Certificate are prepared to take leadership roles in diverse areas of security. Master degree holders can also pursue terminal degrees in Civil Security Leadership, Management and Policy and other fields.

Specialization areas: 

  • National Security: Develop the ability to analyze the global complexities and implications of National Security policy, procedures, and operations. 
  • Corporate Security: Develop ability to analyze and synthesize organizational continuity, emergency response and risk management policy and procedures. 
  • Information Assurance/Cyber Security: Develop the ability to analyze and apply principles of information assurance/cyber security and cyber defense.

Students who complete the Information Assurance/Cyber Security concentration and SECU 610 (included in the core coursework) will earn a Cyber Defense, Graduate Certificate approved by the National Security Agency.

The NJCU Professional Security Studies program is one of the few in the country to be designated as a center of academic excellence (CAE) in both cybersecurity and intelligence.

Admission Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Minimum GPA of 2.75
  • Meet all minimum requirements of the Graduate Studies Office. These requirements include: completed application; transcripts; two recommendation letters; essay; resume; and GMAT test results. An interview may be requested.

Additional requirements for international students include: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test result, and Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE), or World Education Services (WES) evaluation of international transcripts. To apply for graduate study click HERE.
